ICONIC TRAM SHED OFFICES LET TO RESEARCH AND STRATEGY FIRM
Robinson Layer have let a 335 sq ft ground floor suite of offices in the historic Tram Shed on East Road to Akendi UK, a usability research, user experience design and strategy firm.
The agent has also completed a lease renewal on the first floor offices to Cambridge solicitors Crossmans MTA.
Akendi’s Presidential Leo Poll said: “The Tram Shed is an iconic building steeped in local history, perfect for a UX company like Akendi.”
Mark Robinson of the agents said: “Located immediately opposite Anglian Ruskin University campus and just a few minutes’ walk into the centre of Cambridge, the Tram Shed offices and the adjacent Tram Depot pub occupy what were the stables for the original Cambridge horse-drawn tramway set up in October 1880. The first completed section, from the railway station to the post office opposite Christ’s College, commenced service with six cars each drawn by a single horse.
“The tramway ran until early 1914 when it closed due to competition from motor buses. On the last day of operation, the receivers decided that the trams should stop early to prevent student vandalism – plus ca change!”
