GOOD DEMAND FOR ELY RETAIL PROPERTY

Ely has been rated as one of the best performing town centres in the UK, and this can be seen with the latest shops marketed by Robinson Layer. The former Ely News premises on Market Place quickly went under offer with an asking price of £285,000.

This landmark building contains a total of 950 sq ft of office space over two floors, with extensive display windows.

Such was the demand, it went to best and final offers, and went under offer to a speciality food retailer.  Mark Robinson of Robinson Layer said: “Demand is high among retailers as Ely has not seen any significant new development in the city centre for some years.  A building like this one, occupying a prominent position overlooking the market, is highly attractive.”

At 29 High Street, a prominent shop previously occupied by a convenience store and comprising around 2,000 sq ft, was also being marketed by Robinson Layer at a rent of £45,000 a year on a new lease. 

It, too, has gone under offer after an intense marketing period as a reduced size of shop, with the rest of the building currently being refurbished and to be let separately as offices.  Mark Robinson said: “Apart from the attractions of Ely itself, we have found high demand for shops in many of our regional towns over the past two to three years, despite the dire warnngs about high levels of vacancy in other parts of the country.”
