FORMER PERIOD PUB FOR RENT AS OFFICES

The Woolpack in Sawston is for let as modern offices through Robinson Layer. Partner, Peter Layer is handling the marketing. He said: “The building is well located on the High Street. The original pub built in 1685 and around that time the cellars were reputedly an illegal storehouse for wool to avoid tax.

“In an echo of that unlawful activity, the pub closed in 2008 when there was a drugs raid by the police.  The landlady and several customers were jailed and, apparently, crime in Sawston fell dramatically.

“Overall, there is just over 1.900 sq ft, with a ground floor sales area of 764 sq ft and ancillary space of 393 sq ft.  On the first floor is 756 sq ft of office space. There is plenty of on-site car parking space. We are offering the Grade 11 listed building on a new lease at £25,000 per annum.”

The Woolpack was resuscitated when it was purchased in 2009 by Robert and Teresa Russell, partners in Russells Sales and Lettings, as the administrative centre for their business.

Robert said: "We spent a considerable amount of money restoring the building to a very high standard and used it as our offices. Our business became part of Countrywide in 2013 and about a year later they rebranded it Tucker Gardner.  Subsequently, the building became vacant."
